Hi! Hope you are well. Just wanted to give you an update on Ollie who we have now had for 3 weeks here in Brooklyn, New York. He is adjusting well to being a City dog but loves having our backyard and a close by doggy park to romp around in! We are working on obedience training as chewing and peeing in the house still seem to be an issue. Other than that, he is doing exceptionally well! And boy is he beautiful as evidenced in the attached photos of him after his bath. When we tell people that he is from rescue and was in a kill shelter they are flabbergasted that such a gorgeous loving boy could have found him in that predicament. We are glad to bring attention to rescue dogs and your organization as so many people stop us on the street to ask his "breed" or compliment his looks/want to know where we got him. We are in awe of you for all that you do to save these deserving animals. Thank you again, The Schragers (especially Ollie)

Skylar's Story: I am NOT a coyote!

Mistaken Identity or Animal Cruelty? Skylar was picked up in a rural county in North Alabama as an injured stray and placed in a high kill shelter. We are unsure how many days he was injured prior to being picked up. Rescuers will never know if a hunter mistook him for a coyote or was he simply searching for something to eat and was shot by a cruel person.
This poor sweet dog was noticed sitting in the shelter with a terrible shoulder wound and swollen front leg, suffering, in pain, yet still wagging his tail when anyone passed by his cage. He was named Skylar for his brilliant blue eyes and taken to an animal hospital for treatment. He is a young male Siberian Husky who was already neutered and estimated to be just over a year old.

From the moment rescue hands touched him, his EXCEPTIONAL gentle and loving personality melted the hearts of every person who has come in contact with him. Sadly, Skylar's wound was from a gunshot and the only recourse was to amputate his front leg. A wonderful and giving donor stepped up to pay his veterinary bills and Skylar is now recovering very nicely in the home of the rescuer who found him in the shelter. Skylar has obviously been someone's precious pet but he had no tags or microchip and no owner was located.

It was noticed immediately that Skylar was already housebroken! He is terrific around any other dogs AND CATS! Skylar is extremely well behaved and loves to go for a ride in a vehicle. He walks on a leash as though he has been trained. This baby has obviously been living in a home before and loves to sprawl out on the couch or bed next to you. He prefers to just be by someone but is good as gold when he is left resting in his recovery bedroom :)
Skylar still has his stitches from surgery but they will be taken out in just a couple of days. He is healing fast and he can go up and down a flight of stairs with no problem at all. He has learned to adapt to having 3 legs so quickly that it is as though the horrible ordeal that he went through never happened. Skylar was tested for heartworms and was negative. He will come to you completely vetted and ready to love you.

Skylar needs a very loving forever home that will understand his disability but more importantly, will give him the same love that he gives back to everyone around him. His foster mom trusts this dog 100% around children and has pictures of her 1 1/2 yr old grand-daughter hugging Skylar because of his "boo-boo" she can see. Skylar would make the BEST companion for anyone that wants a dog that loves you unconditionally and can be taken anywhere without issue.

If you have the love and understanding for a truly wonderful dog like Skylar then know that you not be disappointed and will cherish each day you get to spend with him as his foster family does right now.

Hello Patricia,
Just thought I’d drop you a note about her…..she seems to be adjusting well, and my kids adore her….I think the feeling is mutual too!  She is a little sweetie and just loves kisses and snuggling!  It is funny the first couple of nights I put her little bed on the floor in my daughter’s room at night and every time I went into the room she was in bed under the covers with my daughter, so now her bed in on top of my daughter’s bed, and she stays there all night!  I don’t think she cares for PA weather too much as she shivers and really doesn’t like to go out at all! We have had some accidents in the house but to be expected in a totally new environment.

I am sorry I didn’t get to say “Thank you” for everything last Saturday, but let me take this opportunity to thank you for everything and for bringing Sweet Cakes to us!
Take care,
Stephanie Warner
